The past month has seen further reductions among Sun-Times Media properties in and around Chicago, including three in the Chicago Sun-Times newsroom earlier this week.
The Chicago Newspaper Guild confirmed the dismissal of sportswriter Jim O’Donnell and part-time feature writer Delia O’Hara, Crain’s Chiago Business reported, adding that Ben Rubenstein, managing editor of the paper’s entertainment guide, was also was let go, according an unnamed source.
In early June, two editorial positions were eliminated at the Joliet Herald News, another at the Aurora Beacon-News and three at the company’s Pioneer Press suburban weekly group.
Saying the union is disputing the company’s dismissal-notification practices, Guild President and Pioneer Press staffer Lynne Stiefel told Crain’s it remained uncertain when the latest lay-offs will take effect.
