‘Sun-Times’ Promotes Two In Ad Department

The Sun-Times News Group announced the promotion Wednesday of Michael Sperling to senior director/automotive and builder advertising, giving him additional responsiblilty for real estate advertising.

The group, which includes the Chicago Sun-Times, also has promoted Rita Walker to builder advertising sales manager.

“Last month, we took the bold step of launching a new Sun-Times News Group-wide builder section in the midst of a very tough housing market,” Barbara Swanson, group vice president, advertising and marketing for the Sun-Times News Group, said in a statement. “The reps and managers who sell to builders pulled together as a team to produce this great new section bundled with a fantastic online component. It solidified our belief that this category of business is still extremely viable and in need of a sales group that collaborates in meeting the unique needs of this important group of advertisers and their agencies.”

Sperling, 37, has been with the company since 1995. Walker, 28, joined the Sun-Times News Group in 2003. She will report to Sperling, who will report to Swanson.
