Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain are the frontrunners as possible presidential nominees, according to Benjamin Eckstein, who does the “America’s Odds” and “Hollywood & Line” features for Universal Press Syndicate.

The Las Vegas oddsmaker said Clinton and McCain are each even money for the Democratic and Republican nominations, respectively. Other Democrats ranked by Eckstein include Barack Obama (3/1) and John Edwards (5/1). Other Republicans ranked include Mitt Romney (3/1) and Rudy Giuliani (also 3/1).

Also, Eckstein told The Washington Examiner that McCain would have a slight edge over Clinton in a theoretical match-up. And the syndicated oddsmaker said former Vice President Al Gore could become a first-tier Democratic candidate if he runs, and that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is the only contender capable of moving into the GOP’s top tier.
