Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat Operations Director Bill Taylor has been named Gannett Co. Inc.’s Production Executive of the Year.
At the same time, Gannett also named Taylor as one of 10 production executives from the nation’s largest newspaper chain as a recipient of the “President’s Ring” for outstanding performance during 2007.
“Winning a Gannett President’s Ring for outstanding performance and being named the top production executive in the company in only his second full year under Gannett ownership is a testament to Bill’s hard work and dedication,” Democrat Publisher Patrick Dorsey said in a statement.
Dorsey noted that Taylor in recent years has been responsible for completing “numerous” capital projects. He hailed Taylor for emphasizing both production quality and workplace safety.
“He does it all with a can-do attitude and an excellent spirit of teamwork,” Dorsey added.
Taylor began his career at the Democrat in 1986, working in the composing room. “I was absolutely stunned to be named a top executive,” he told the paper in a report Tuesday. “I never even considered it.”
The honor, Taylor added, was the result of the Democrat’s production workers’ hard work.
“I tell you what,” he said, “those guys have been busy.”
