A 19-year-old Iron Range man has pleaded guilty for firing a rifle into the air and injuring a newspaper reporter who was driving by.
Joshua Rowe of Mountain Iron pleaded guilty Monday. He will be sentenced Dec. 15 on a felony count of endangering safety by discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of underage alcohol consumption.
Rowe’s attorney says with the plea agreement, the prosecution likely will dismiss the remaining charges.
In court, Rowe acknowledged discharging a shotgun and a .308 rifle into the air last August.
Bullets struck a pickup on Highway 53 driven by Jesse White of Buhl, a reporter for the Mesabi Daily News, and fragments lodged in White’s head.
Judge James Florey says he’ll defer accepting the plea pending a pre-sentence investigation and the results of an alcohol problem assessment.
