Tensor Group Inc., based in Woodridge, Ill., installed a T-400BE four-high press at Delaware’s Dover Post Co., which prints many of the region’s weeklies and a variety of other periodicals in three weekday shifts.
Dover Post bought the tower to expand the color capabilities of its Heidelberg/Goss Mercury Press — the third time Tensor has added a T-400BE to a Mercury.
The challenge for Tensor engineers was to determine the exact cutoff and plate lockup requirements needed to synchronize with the existing press and plate bending equipment. The match in size enhanced page-one color quality and reduced waste.
Installation was accomplished with little interruption of the print run. Pressroom Manager Curt Garrison said in a statement that “we’ve competed in the past with Tensor presses, and we were aware of their print quality.” He added that the T-400BE’s bearer design was “a good fit for tying into the Heidelberg. We also benefit from the easy access to the interior of the units for maintenance.”
