Tensor Group Inc. of Woodridge, Ill., will supply Hurriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S., a subsidiary of Dogan Yayin Holding (DYH) of Istanbul, Turkey, with web press equipment for two of its six Dogan Printing Centers (DPC) plants. The complete order totals 76 press units, three folders and 25 splicers. Most of the order will be installed at DPC’s site in Adana.

Total circulation of the group’s titles can reach 3.2 million copies on weekends. Titles published and printed at the Adana plant include 10 DYH dailies and three non-DYH national titles printed under contract. The presses will boost the plants’ production speed and color capacity.

With installation of the new equipment, the Adana plant will operate what Tensor calls the world’s largest single-wide press line — 194 feet long. Replacing an existing press line entirely with Tensor 1400 series units, the new press will comprise 13 four-high towers, six two-highs, and three Tensor H-50 folders. Twenty-five zero-speed splicers will sit below press level.

Each printing unit features remote ink and motorized register controls. The high-speed heavy-duty jaw folders designed for 12-web capacity afford greatly increased product output for DPC.

In addition to the Adana, the contract calls for adding three T-1400 four-highs to existing equipment at DPC’s Antalya site.

DPC Managing Director Hamil Alniacik said the Tensor press was chosen to print the 10 dailies within their brief production slot because the single-wide, one-plate-around press “enables fast job changeovers and short make-ready times.” He also cited frame strength and the strong, reliable folders that permit future extensions.

According to Alniacik, the press will be able to print three products simultaneously, or using the tower’s selectability, two titles up to 48 broadsheet pages with 32 pages in full color simultaneously.
