Joey and Lindsey Young have purchased The Clarion newspaper and its website from Robb and Martha Reeves.
Rollie Hyde, of W.B. Grimes and Company, served as Advisor in the transaction.
Joey Young spent the last two years as a copy editor and designer at the Hutchinson News. Before that he worked for Reeves Media as a reporter for the Harvey County Independent before taking over as editor at the Clarion.
“Lindsey is the reason I’m even in journalism,” Joey said. “We were both in forensics, and they needed someone to write a little sports, and since she knew from our short time together that was my real passion, she convinced me to join the newspaper staff, and here I am.”
Lindsey Young is a teacher at her high school alma mater, Haven High School and teaches public speaking, debate, forensics, yearbook and integrated media.
“Next year, we are starting a high school newspaper that the yearbook class will produce, along with their yearbook duties,” Lindsey said. “Joey and I are pumped to be taking over my hometown newspaper.”
The Reeves purchased the Clarion in the fall of 2008 from Nancy Stucky. At the time, the paper was tabloid in format and was black and white. It also had no website. The Reeves will continue to own and operate their three other newspapers, the Harvey County Independent, The Hesston Record and The Ledger.
