THOMSON REPORTS HEAVY INTEREST IN NEWSPAPERS

By: Lucia Moses

Group Gets 150 Inquiries

Thomson Corp. has fielded 150 inquiries so far in response to its announced sale of
the company’s newspapers, says Stuart Garner, president of the newspaper division.
The company expects to send out copies of the prospectus next week to potential
buyers.

The interest has come mainly from other newspaper groups, including one in the United
Kingdom, plus investment firms, Garner says. The company announced two weeks ago it was
getting out of newspapers to pursue its Internet businesses in business-to-business
trade publishing. Thomson wants to sell all 55 of its U.S. and Canadian dailies,
excluding Canada’s Globe and Mail.
