In today’s letters, readers respond to Greg Mitchell’s column about reporters buying the Bush Administration’s claims on Iran, some scold newspapers for dropping Ann Coulter, and an author thinks the Walter Reed scandal is simply a symptom of poor health care across the board in the U.S.

‘Crying Wolf’ on Iran

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the “Iran Claims” were factual and true but were ignored because of earlier administration hyperbole? If memory serves, the boy who cried wolf was eventually eaten.

Walter Reed Scandal a Symptom of Bigger Problems With Health System

The Walter Reed debacle is only the tip of the iceberg. While the health circumstances veterans face are perhaps the cruelest of all, let us not ignore the grossly sub-standard ? and worsening ? conditions that the Average Joe (not necessarily GI Joe) faces every day in public as well as private hospitals. The very best of care is reserved for those with means, while nearly 80 million uninsured, under-insured and partially insured Americans grapple with poor diagnoses, rushed physicians, abhorrent bureaucracy and poor customer service.

As author of the forthcoming consumer guidebook “Patients Beyond Borders: Everybody’s Guide to Affordable, World-Class Medical Tourism,” I’ve toured dozens of hospitals abroad, interviewed hundreds of patients (including veterans) and providers. Informed healthcare consumers are packing their bags and heading overseas for better quality treatment at 30-80 percent savings. Folks shouldn’t have to travel 10,000 miles to get out of pain, or avoid financial calamity due to heinously expensive treatments?yet next year 200,000 will, at a cost of nearly $30 billion to the US economy.

In a way, we’re all veterans ? of a war zone that’s become our national healthcare system.

Red-Hot Coulter

Where is [these newspapers’] backbone? Dropping Ann Coulter, shame on you. BTW, I just dropped you! I still believe in freedom of speech. Edwards should grow up and move on — or sue Ann.

Kay Magee

Ann Coulter is a straight-shooter, unlike the liberals and the queer nation with all the lies and the attitude that they are somebody. Well let me tell you that Ann Coulter is a woman of great character and will tell the truth no matter what the truth is. Give her a great big cookie for effort and a giant pay raise for having the guts to [expose the people who are the real problem for] who they really are.

Andrew Onorio Sr.

So glad you have the guts to stick up for integrity and not succumb to the blond bully and a few laughs.
