The next business editor of The New York Times could be a home-grown Gotham talent: Larry Ingrassia of The Wall Street Journal.

Ingrassia, an assistant managing editor at the Journal, has been offered the job, which has been vacant for months, according to the New York Post. While the offer isn’t final, an announcement is expected as early as this week.

The veteran editor of the “Money & Investing” section last year began working on whether the Journal should add a Saturday or weekend edition. It appears that move has been put on the back burner, however, and Ingrassia has been back on his usual beat. The paper currently is preparing a redesign of Money & Investing.
