Vulcan Ventures Buys Pub and Online Assets
(Adweek) Vulcan Ventures, a Bellevue, Wash.-based investment company owned
by Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen, has acquired The Sporting News and
its Web components from Times Mirror Co., Los Angeles. Terms were not released.
The sporting weekly, up for sale since September, will remain in St. Louis
under current leadership.
Vulcan owns Charter Communications, the fourth largest U.S. cable company, and
its investments in new media, entertainment. and technology include stakes in
Oxygen Media, ZDTV, eGreetings, Priceline.com. and NorthPoint Communications.
