Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. (BCCL), India’s largest media group, will implement a 1,000-seat NewsGate cross-media publishing system from CCI Europe, Arhus, Denmark. The system will be used at five newspapers with a total daily circulation exceeding 5.5 million.

Installation begins this month, with plans to bring the system on line by the end of the year. When complete, NewsGate will be used in 20 locations throughout India to publish the Times of India, which, with a circulation of 3.75 million, is considered the world’s largest English-language broadsheet daily; The Economic Times, India’s largest English-language financial daily (and the world’s second largest, after The Wall Street Journal), circulating 730,000 copies daily; Mumbai Mirror (daily circulation of 688,000); and the Indiatimes Internet Portal, with approximately one billion monthly page views, according to CCI.

CCI NewsGate employs a “story folder” concept for organizing multi-media content, workflow and planning across multiple delivery channels, which will be used for BCCL’s print and digital content delivery. An XML repository based on an Oracle database in a disaster-recovery environment will provide BCCL’s properties with storage and management of content and related information, according to CCI.
