Times-Shamrock Communications announced on Monday that the company will begin to pass along management responsibilities to the fourth generation of the Lynett-Haggerty family, naming four members chief executive officers. They will officially take charge on Jan. 1, 2009.
W. Scott Lynett, Robert J. Lynett, George V. Lynett Jr., and Matthew E. Haggerty, will work with Publisher William R. Lynett to assume responsibility. Publisher George V. Lynett will cut back on his management of the company during the transition. William and George Sr. have managed the company with their siblings Edward J. Lynett and Cecilia Lynett Haggerty since 1966.
The new CEOs have gone through the Management Development Program, a four-year training in which they gain experience in every facet of the company and also work at an outside media company.
Scott Lynett joined the company in 2000 working as a local sales manager at The City Paper in Balitmore and as a sales representative for The Citizen?s Voice in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and a Scranton, Pa., radio station. He most recently worked as publisher of The Citizens? Voice since 2004 and the Standard-Speaker in Hazelton, Pa. since 2007. He is succeeded by his cousins Daniel P. Haggerty and Gregory E. Lynett.
George V. Lynett Jr. has managed the Times-Shamrock Weekly Group of nine newspapers. He was also publisher of The Daily Review in Towanda, Pa., and served as president of Towanda Printing Co. He will be replaced by Gregory J. Zyla. During his time in the Management Development Program he worked as an advertising account executive for the San Antonio Current, an account executive for a Milwaukee radio station and as an executive intern at the San Francisco Chronicle.
Robert J. Lynett was most recently general manager of the Times-Shamrock radio stations in Scranton/Wilkes Barre, as position he has held since 2005. He spent a year at The Washington Post during the Management Development Program, and also worked as a single-copy manager at the Citizen?s Voice and as a sales representative for The City Paper and sales manager at the Scranton radio stations.
Matthew E. Haggerty has been general manager of Times-Shamrock Interactive Media since 2006. He oversees online content and advertising at all the newspaper sites. During the Management Development Program he worked as a beat reporter for The Citizen?s Voice, and served as special projects manager for the radio stations before joining the Interactive Media department.
