Dave Barry is coming out of column retirement to write a series of pieces on this year’s Super Bowl, which takes place Feb. 4 in Miami.
Barry, of course, is the Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist who formerly wrote a weekly Miami Herald column that ran in 500-plus newspapers via Tribune Media Services.
TMS will syndicate six Barry columns starting this Sunday, with the commentaries extending into the Feb. 3-4 Super Bowl weekend.
The first piece — a “Visitor’s Guide to Miami” — will provide an insider’s look at the host city. The final piece will be a “live” column the night of the Feb. 4 game between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.
Speaking of special offerings, TMS is also offering an advance Oscar package from Variety. The package includes short profiles (450 words) of the nominees for Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress; a collection of quotes from actors, directors, and others reacting to the news of their nominations; and photos.
Package subscribers will also receive Variety’s post-Oscar coverage the morning after the Feb. 25 awards show.
