When at least seven tornadoes tore through Ohio Sept. 16, injuring a number of people, knocking out electrical power to thousands, and destroying buildings in several counties, newspaper facilities were among the affected businesses.
Though The Times-Reporter lost power to its New Philadelphia plant, the GateHouse Media morning daily was able to publish on time by printing at The Repository, its sister paper in Canton.
The Athens Messenger reported it sustained heavy damage, and its Friday edition was printed at an Ohio Community Media site. Without power, the Messenger temporarily relocated its office operations to The Logan Daily News, another evening daily, in neighboring Hocking County. The damage to the Messenger pressroom also delayed publication of the Logan Daily News Friday edition. Both papers are owned by American Consolidated Media.
