Mary Deanne Shears, managing Editor of the Toronto Star, will leave the newspaper at the end of the year.

Shears, a 35-year veteran of the Star, has served as managing editor for the past seven years. She made the announcement to staff Thursday morning in an e-mail: “I have decided it is now time for me to pursue other goals and dreams and, to accomplish these, I will be leaving The Star.”
