Tracy Press Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

By: E&P Staff

California’s Tracy Press Inc., publisher of the weekly Tracy Press and, in Santa Cruz County, the Press-Banner, filed July 2 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Sacramento for a Chapter 11 reorganization.

The company also has published the Patterson Irrigator since 2003, but that paper’s own limited liability company (which includes a print shop) has not filed for bankruptcy.

The Matthews family of Tracy said their newspapers, online operations and printing services will remain in operation.

While calling her paper “a strong business,” Irrigator Editor and General Manager Amanda Matthews is quoted by the paper saying, “It’s been a tough ride for the Tracy Press for the past few years as revenues have declined rapidly.”

The Tracy Press was a daily until a few years ago, when declining revenues forced it to cut back on costs and publication frequency. Last year, the Irrigator converted from twice-weekly to weekly for similar reasons.
