Tribune Co. said late Monday it was promoting a company veteran as chief financial officer, replacing longtime CFO Don Grenesko, who is retiring.
Effectively immediately, Tribune said, its CFO will be Chandler Bigelow, who has been the Chicago media giant’s vice president/treasurer since 2003. He joined Tribune in 1998, serving as corporate finance manager, director/corporate finance, and assistant treasurer.
Since new Chairman and CEO Sam Zell took Tribune private in December, previous open C-level positions had gone to business associates of the Chicago real estate mogul or others outside of Tribune.
Bigelow replaces Grenesko, who served as its CFO for the past 17 years. He joined Tribune as treasury manager in 1980, and was involved in the company’s 1983 initial stock offering. He served as president and CEO of the Chicago Cubs from 1988 to 1991.
