Patuxent Publishing Co., part of the Tribune Co.?s Baltimore Sun Community Newspaper Group, has acquired ZIP Publishing, which owns community newspapers in Baltimore and Howard counties.
Terms of the deal, brokered by W.B. Grimes & Co., were not disclosed.
Zip publishes The View weekly newspapers and distributes more than 33,000 papers in Elkridge, Catonsville, Arbutus, Ellicott City, and portions of western Howard County and 22,000 papers in Baltimore County.
Patuxent, based in Columbia, Md., publishes 19 community newspapers including the Howard County Times and the Columbia Flyer.
?By adding the View newspapers, we are making an even greater commitment to the residents of those areas,? said Jim Quimby, president of Patuxent, in a statement. The addition of the View newspapers will extend Patuxent?s reach to 90% of homes in Howard County.
Phyllis Greenbaum and Pete Cook, founders of Zip, will help with the transition for three months. Tom Pierce, vice president of sales and marketing for the View, will stay on with Patuxent as sales manage for View publications.
