The Tribune Co. has agreed to sell Jeppesen Sanderson Inc., the
flight information division it inherited when it bought the
Times Mirror Co. in June, to the Boeing Co. for $1.5 billion in
cash.

Tribune says the deal will enable the company to reduce its debt
associated with the Times Mirror deal, buy back stock, and focus
on its multimedia strategy. The deal is expected to close in the
fourth quarter.

Chicago-based Tribune has repurchased about $580 million worth of
stock since the beginning of the year and says it plans to buy
back at least $200 million more in stock before the year ends.
