WASHINGTON — July 13, 2011—Trove (www.trove.com), a free personalized news aggregation service from The Washington Post Company, today launches an app for the Windows Phone and for Windows 7 tablet devices. With its launch on Windows mobile products, Trove is now available on nearly every mobile platform. Trove became available on the iPad, iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry shortly after its public launch in April.
“We launched Trove because we believe users want a unique way to consume the news they care about. Equally important is the ability to access the news experience on any device, whether it’s a personal phone, tablet, or computer, carrying reading preferences seamlessly across platforms. Since launching Trove, we’ve been pleased to see that our mobile users have kept pace with our site users,” said Vijay Ravindran, senior vice president and chief digital officer of The Washington Post Company.
Trove’s mobile apps offer features and functionality similar to those in the desktop version. Editors’ Picks features intriguing news stories of the day, while Trove’s more than 4,000 subject-based channels gather articles from recommended sources on subjects ranging from U.S. foreign policy to cooking to Lady Gaga. Like Trove.com, Trove’s mobile apps allow users to add editor-curated channels or to choose their own — and those channels and settings are automatically synced across their devices and their Web experience.
“Windows Phone is backed by an ecosystem of skilled developers who are building a variety of quality games and apps, like Trove, that take advantage of the phone’s unique features and design,” said Todd Brix, senior director, Windows Phone Marketplace, Microsoft Corp. “With its easy personalization and intuitive design, Trove is a great example of the high quality apps that Windows Phone customers can expect to find on Marketplace.”
Along with the Windows release, Trove has also released updated versions of its Android, iPhone, and iPad apps. You can find out more about Trove’s mobile apps, along with download information, at www.trove.com/mobile.
