In today’s letters, readers react to Bob Woodward’s new book and weigh in on Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.

The question every journalist should be asking Dr. Rice, Mr. Ashcroft and Mr. Rumsfeld is how, specifically, did you go after Al Qaeda after you received these warnings?

Unfortunately, the question is not being asked and the administration is falling back on the fact that while they were warned, they did not know where Al Qaeda would strike. Without specifics, they are implying they could not do anything.

Always watch Condi’s modifiers. What she said was yes, there might have been threat reporting, but no, it wasn’t of “any substance.” The same distinction is made in her statements today: “We’re getting a steady stream of quite alarmist reports.” There’s a qualitative difference between “alarming” and “alarmist”. Alarmist reports are by definition unreliable and she can’t be held responsible for ignoring or downplaying them.

She is one nasty piece of work. The practical result is an NSA director who needs a memo in triplicate stating, “It will be Colonel Mustard in the Library with the Candlestick at precisely 8:47 a.m. on September 11th hence,” before she’d actually, you know, do anything. …

I haven’t been a fan of Woodward in recent years, but on this one I think he’s got the goods.

Woodward isn’t about reporting the news, he is about being the news!

What with the Woodward book timing, it appears to most of the people in my circle that the Democrats are engaged in the policy of character assassination and has the ear-markings of a Clinton hit squad at work.

As an Independent voter, [I think] the Democrats will find this backfiring on them. How about telling the public what is going on with the William Jefferson “money laundering” case? [How about] the Barney Frank prostitution ring, and how the Democrats appear to be operating [on a double] standard.

While Mr. Foley is despicable, the rest aren’t clean either. There is a lot of murmuring in the general population about a COMPLETE RECALL of every House and Senate member! None of them are doing our business.

It’s all about POWER, MONEY, and CONTROL and the Clintons will never win again! Tell him to put that on the end of his finger! Our news “journalist” ought be wary of such tactics. Do any of you ever get out and speak to “normal” citizens?
