Competing Hollywood movies about the life and death of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl are now in the works, The New York Times reported on Sunday.
Almost two years ago, Warner Brothers agreed to pay more than $500,000 for film rights to “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl,” a book co-written by Mariane Pearl, the reporter’s widow.
But that film has been slowed by the breakup of the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston marriage; their company was to produce the film. Pitt is still attached as producer.
Also on the boards: a version by filmmakers Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz based on the book “Who Killed Daniel Pearl?,” a detective story written by the philosopher Bernard-Henri L?vy.
At the moment, the Times observed, “it appears that two very different visions of the Pearl story will be bidding for a green light in months to come, with potentially different consequences for those who knew and loved Mr. Pearl.”
