The Canton (Ohio) Repository announced today that General Manager Michael E. Hanke Special Projects Editor Rick Senften will exit the paper via the buyout route by the end of year — and more cuts are to come.

This all comes as The Repository “adjusts operating expenses in preparation for the sale of the paper,” it noted. “A number of other staff reductions are pending.”

Hanke has spent 35 years at The Repository, and in 1980, at the age of 30, became editor. He served in that post for 17 years.

Senften spent 30 years with the paper, formerly serving as city editor. He became special projects editor in 2000.

Editor David C. Kaminski said in the paper: ?The work of the new year will be harder with the absence of Mike and Rick from The Repository. They are formidable figures in local journalism and true friends to the community that The Repository serves.?
