Matt Bors’ editorial cartoons will be distributed by United Media starting this Monday.
United plans to syndicate three cartoons a week in color and black and white.
The Canton, Ohio-raised Bors was attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh when he became increasingly disinterested in designing ads for consumer products. So in 2003, during the run-up to the Iraq War, Bors began a weekly cartoon called “Idiot Box” for the school newspaper. He soon picked up various clients in the alternative-weekly press.
In addition to commenting on war, Bors also draws about politics, culture, religion, “the pressing matter of obsessive lawn care,” and more.
Bors “infuses the traditional format of editorial cartooning with comic-strip structures and biting humor,” said Ted Rall, the United acquisition and development editor who also does editorial cartoons for Universal Press Syndicate.
The Portland, Ore.-based Bors also works as a freelance illustrator and draws the “War Is Boring” comic written by journalist David Axe.
