In a recent “Maintaining” comic sequence, lead character Marcus is forced by friends and family to confront his addiction to the Cadbury Eggs candy.

Soon after, a reader from Indiana shipped a 200-count case of the chocolate treats to “Maintaining” cartoonist Nate Creekmore of Universal Press Syndicate.

“On my Web site, I have a notice that donations are welcomed to help me pay off my student loan,” said Creekmore. “The man who sent me the eggs said I could use the money that I normally spend on the Cadbury Eggs and use it instead to pay off my student loan.”

Creekmore has enjoyed Cadbury Eggs since he was a kid, but tries not to eat too many of them.

“Maintaining,” which appears in papers such as the Detroit Free Press and The Oregonian of Portland, looks at life through the eyes of an interracial teenager.
