Universal Press Syndicate will reach its 35th anniversary tomorrow.

The Kansas City-based syndicate is marking the milestone this week with in-house events.

Universal — the largest independently owned syndicate — is known for features such as “Cathy,” “Dear Abby,” “Doonesbury,” Roger Ebert’s column, “FoxTrot,” “Garfield,” “Non Sequitur,” Pat Oliphant’s editorial cartoons, and “The Boondocks.”

The co-founder of Universal, John McMeel, is still working as chairman and president of the syndicate’s Andrews McMeel Universal parent firm.
