Jonathan Pearl, the pressroom supervisor at The Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass., who was taken into custody Monday night by city police after he allegedly brought a rifle to the paper’s South Main Street building, has been ordered held for psychological evaluation in a mental health facility.
The Sun Chronicle reported Wednesday that a state psychologist who examined Pearl Tuesday at Attleboro District Court recommended a further evaluation.
Reportedly upset after a family dispute Monday night, Pearl visited the paper and allegedly hid an unloaded .22 caliber rifle in the press area. His wife notified police, telling them that she and her husband had a dispute and that he was in an agitated state.
Pearl exited the newspaper about 7 p.m. and police armed with automatic weapons ordered him to the ground at gunpoint and took him into custody without incident. He faces charges of disturbing the peace and improper storage of a firearm.
