The University of Southern California says Pulitzer-winning journalist Geneva Overholser will become the next director of the School of Journalism at the Annenberg School for Communication.

Dean Ernest J. Wilson III says Overholser will succeed former Los Angeles Times reporter and editor Michael Parks. He is stepping down in June after seven years leading the school.

Overholser currently teaches at the University of Missouri School of Journalism’s Washington, D.C., campus.

She was editor of the Des Moines Register from 1988 to 1995, when the newpaper won a Pulitzer Prize. She has also worked as an ombudsman for the Washington Post, a New York Times editorial board member and a syndicated columnist.
