Vandal Steals the Head of a Garfield Statue

By: E&P Staff

Someone stole the fiberglass head of a “Garfield” statue in Marion, Ind., according to an Associated Press story.

The statue, unveiled in October, shows the lazy cartoon cat in the very un-Garfield-like garb of workout clothes.

Marion is in the home county of “Garfield” creator Jim Davis, whose comic appears in about 2,600 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate.

The AP story was linked today on Alan Gardner’s DailyCartoonist.com blog. Gardner wondered if the vandalizing culprit was Odie — the dog who Garfield periodically torments.
