John DeLeeuw, owner and founder of the Trading Post Publications in Chesapeake and Richmond, Va., has sold his publications to Lancaster Management Inc. of Gadsden, Ala.

The sale includes the real estate of the publications. No other terms were disclosed in the sale, which was announced by Gary Greene of Cribb, Greene & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction.

Lancaster Management said it would retain all employees, and oversee the new property from its Hopewell (Va.) News weekly.

DeLeeuw co-founded the Tidewater Trading Post in 1963 while he was a business school professor at Dominion University. The paper initially served the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and later expanded into the Richmond market with the launching of the Mid-Virginia Trading Post in 1969.

The classified product grew on the concept of “advertise free, pay only if and when you sell.”
