Virginia’s ‘Daily News Leader’ Gets a New Publisher

Gannett announced Friday that Roger Watson has been named president and publisher of The Daily News Leader in Staunton, Va. He is replacing Gary Stout, who is retiring after 25 years with Gannett.

Previously, Watson was general manager of The News Examiner in Hendersonville, Tenn. He joined Gannett in 1996 as editor and general manager of the Black Mountain (N.C.) News. In 2000, he was named president and publisher of the Marietta (Ohio) Times. He relocated to Hendersonville in 2002.

Prior to joining The Daily News Leader, Stout was the president and publisher of Gannett newspapers in Little Falls, Minn. and Danville, Ill. He also served as president of Gannett Offset from 1988 to 2001.
