Wal-Mart Stores USA President and CEO Eduardo Castro-Wright has been elected to the Dow Jones & Company board of directors effective Feb. 1, the publisher of The Wall Street Journal announced Wednesday.
Wal-Mart, the world’s biggest retailer, recently began a newspaper advertising campaign in smaller dailies after years of doing far less newspaper advertising than other big-box merchandisers.
Dow Jones Chairman and CEO Peter R. Kann said Castro-Wright, 50, “brings great expertise in marketing and operations, as well as broad international experience to our board.”
A native of Ecuador, Castro-Wright previously served as chief operating officer of Wal-Mart Stores USA, from January to October 2005, and served as CEO of Wal-Mart Mexico from 2003 to 2005. Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Mr. Castro-Wright held a number of executive positions at Honeywell and Nabisco.
