Rob Blethen has been named associate publisher of the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, effective Sept. 2.
Blethen, 35, currently serves as director of advertising for the Portland (Maine) Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram.
Blethen is expected to be appointed publisher of the Union-Bulletin sometime in the first half of 2009, when Larry Duthie, publisher of the newspaper since 2004, plans to retire.
?Rob has developed into an excellent newspaper executive and will be positioned to continue our 36 year stewardship of the Union-Bulletin,? Frank Blethen, publisher of The Seattle Times and chair of the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin?s board of directors, said in a statement.
Rob Blethen has been at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2002, where he has held numerous management positions in advertising and circulation. He also serves on the board of directors for Blethen Maine Newspapers.
