The Washington Post today announced the creation of a start-up online publishing unit, The Slate Group, which will be led by current Slate magazine editor Jacob Weisberg. The new group will consist of Slate, Slate V, The Root, and the company’s pending business website, the Big Money.
The Slate Group will aim to “develop and manage a family of web-only magazines, new ventures and acquisitions,” according to a Washington Post Company internal memo, described by paidcontent.org.
While Weisberg will handle editorial content, current Slate publisher John Alderman has been named general manager of The Slate Group and will retain his old duty as publisher. David Plotz will succeed Weisberg as the editor of Slate magazine.
