Last week several people concerned about newspapers testified before Congress about the survival of the industry. In Washington state, the legislature decided to take action.
A brief story filed in The Seattle Times reported
that Washington Governor Chris Gregoire has approved tax cuts for the newspaper industry. Under the new law, publishers and printers get a 40% cut in the state’s main business tax.
Washington state has done this before with other industries. It enacted a similar law providing tax relief to the aerospace and timber industries.
