Waterloo, Iowa ‘Courier’ Promotes Three to Top Posts

Pat Kinney has been named news editor at The Courier in Waterloo, Iowa.

Kinney, 50, has been a fixture in the newsroom for 24 years, and in his new role will oversee the newsroom?s day-to-day operations. Most recently he has served as assistant city editor and business editor. Kinney succeeds Editor Nancy Raffensperger Newhoff.

Douglas Hines, who for 12 years has been the Courier?s wire editor, has been promoted to assistant news editor. Hines, 44, also will serve as the newsroom?s writing coach.

Previously, Hines was a reporter and editor at the Mason City Globe-Gazette for eight years, was wire editor at the Fort Dodge Messenger, and worked as a reporter for the Cascade Pioneer-Advertiser.

Michelle Gebhardt has been named the Courier?s online editor. Gebhardt joined the paper more than nine years ago as a copy editor.
