July 31, 2012 — “Helping our audiences find what they want from our advertisers has never been more critical” begins Bill Cummings, President of the Western Classified Advertising Association (WCAA) as he talks about the 2012 conference, September 23-26 in Las Vegas, Nev. “We have put together a powerful conference with our ongoing challenge of delivering concepts, ideas and methods that will work in the first 30 days after a conference attendee returns to their markets.”
“Delivering a conference this focused is always a challenge” says Nate Rodriguez, the Conference Chair and President Elect. “It’s a small group of people that work eight months researching to find experts,” Rodriguez said.
The WCAA Conference is one of the few surviving conferences that focus on the Classified Categories. “This year, we are expanding to the local controllable accounts for media organizations as well,” added Cummings. With a focus on Classifieds, Local Retail Advertising and Digital Media, the conference delivers an incomparable experience for under $200.
“This is our 62nd year producing an industry conference,” said Cummings. “It is always a tremendous undertaking for a small, dedicated group. Nate and his committee have done an excellent job in coming up with a great line up.”
In recent years, due to budget constraints, many of the 150 that attend pay their own way, including hotels. The conference is nearly all-inclusive, with breakfast, lunch and dinners a part of the conference fee. The Paris Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip is the official hotel for this year’s conference. The WCAA has room deals at the Paris for $110 per night and a limited number of rooms at Bally’s for $94 per night.
“We could not produce this conference without the support of our sponsors,” said Cummings. “They include thought leaders and product developers. Many launch or test their products at our conference.”
The WCAA has posted the complete conference agenda on its website, www.mywcaa.com. Beginning on Sunday, Sept. 23, there will be the welcome reception, “It’s Showtime.” “Early registration is closes August 20. The rates go up to $298 after that,” said Cummings. “I would register as quickly as possible!”

Monday, September 24, Bill Cummings, the President of WCAA, will share some opening remarks for the conference. WCAA Vice President and Program Chair, Nate Rodriguez will moderate the session, “Target, Engage, Retain.” Lance Lambert, the Regional Manager at Carfax.com, will present a session called, “Retaining Dollars: Direct response, branding and targeting advertising strategies.” The award ceremony for Classified Concepts’ D.R.I.V.E. contest will be held Monday evening.
Tuesday, September 25 keynote session “Managing Change” is with Jamie Naughton, the Speaker of the House at Zappos.com. Tuesday’s will also include a series of sessions called, “In the Spotlight,” highlighting the best practices in the recruitment, real estate and automotive verticals, followed by a Q&A with the speakers, Chelle Bize, Bryan Nelson and Mike Rutigliano. Randy Lopez, the Director of Account Services at Johnson Gray Advertising, will present the session, “Socially Mobile.”
Wednesday’s agenda includes another series of “In the Spotlight” sessions, highlighting event marketing for real estate, recruitment, and niche events, presented by speakers, Michelle Ackerman, Carla Royter and Leslie Aubé Nagy, respectively. Jason Taylor, the President of The Chattanooga Times Free Press, will speak Wednesday morning, a presentation called, “From $0 to $2 Million: How to increase your event marketing revenue.” Cummings will share his closing remarks for the conference from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
