Mediaspan’s Harris & Baseview division, Ann Arbor, Mich., offers a new module designed to make a newspaper Web site interactive, information-rich and up-to-the-minute with election news.
The module from the company’s BITS Web-hosting unit serves as a staff resource and information storehouse for printed and online voter’s guides.
Baseview & Harris handles all hardware and software. Information, branding and ad revenues are the newspaper’s.
The Elections module allows candidates to upload their information and photos. Using unique log-ins, they can fill out an editorial board’s questionnaire, online and at their convenience. Staff can research and reuse that information to compile voter guides.
Candidates also may supply links and e-mail addresses to their sites. Internet readers are prompted to provide a ZIP code and are then presented with online ballot information that matches the ballots they’ll see in the booths. ZIP-specific information uses municipality designations that enable voters to read about local elections and ballot issues as well as the presidential race. Each ballot item can feature editorial coverage links to the newspaper’s or others’ sites, and editors can approve each candidate’s answers and submissions.
Other BITS modules, available separately or bundled, include: content management, access control, searchable classifieds, banner ad management, interactive tools, MLS real estate listings, archiving, display advertising, soft proofing, PDF edition, newsletters, e-tearsheets and UPICKEM community sports.
