“Wee Pals” creator Morrie Turner is slated to speak Feb. 3 at Alfred University’s second annual “Drawn to Diversity” program in Alfred, N.Y.

The California-based cartoonist, who began “Wee Pals” in 1965, was a pioneer in creating an integrated cast of comic-strip characters.

Turner, of Creators Syndicate, has also illustrated many children’s books.

Prior to the Feb. 3 event, Alfred University students will be asked to submit comics to the student newspaper. The strips will be printed alongside “Wee Pals” comics in the Jan. 30 issue, which will also include an interview with Turner.
