Those who work at, or are fans of, daily newspapers wondered how the HBO series “The Wire” would wrap tonight. One of its main plot devices this year featured a reporter at the Sun of Baltimore who made stuff up (the names Blair and Kelley were invoved) as his editors pushed for a prize winning series.
Well, in the final montage at the end of the show tonight, viewers could briefly see him picking up some parchment at a podium labeled Columbia University. Some of us know that’s where the Pulitzers are handed out, but surely it must have gone over the head of many watchers. But the point was made.
Meanwhile, the female colleague who knew his notebook was empty got shipped out to a suburban bureau so she wouldn’t stand in the way of the big prize. Just fiction, right?
