Women’s eNews Seeks Strong Presence at the Political Conventions

Women’s eNews is trying to raise $30,000 to help get reporters, bloggers, staffers, and volunteers to this summer’s Democratic and Republican conventions.

One thing the news service plans to do at the Denver and Minneapolis gatherings is present “The Memo” documenting “the dramatic decline in the status of women in the United States during the past decade.”

Women’s eNews wants to insert “The Memo” — which discusses the gender gap in wages, barriers to employment, the increase in single mothers living in poverty, reproductive health, violence, and homophobia — in delegates’ welcome packets and distribute it in other ways at the conventions.

Clients of Women’s eNews include newspapers. And among the content on the news service’s Web site is the “Commentoon” feature by Ann Telnaes (who does animations for WashingtonPost.com) and the “Sylvia” comic strip by Nicole Hollander of Tribune Media Services.
