WoodWing Software, Zaandam, The Netherlands, has released Version 1.4 of its Digital Magazine Tools for iPad, supporting Adobe CS4 and CS5.
The tools are used by newspapers and magazines to create iPad apps for their editions. The new release enables publishers to create more-appealing apps, with scrollable elements that increase creative leeway. Audio files may be assigned to pages for automatic sound when they are opened. Readers can switch to the next story using two-finger swipes.
Among new features for designing a table of contents is a vertical list that pops up in a separate window. A new scrubber in the page navigator is similar to iBook navigation.
Version 1.4 also offers new extension possibilities. Custom Page Objects allows third parties to add functionality to the digital edition’s code. Web elements can be shown embedded in the page, as a pop-up in the application, or in the Web browser outside the app.
The Digital Magazine Tools are integrated with WoodWing’s Enterprise cross-media publishing system and its Content Station content-management application, enabling publishers to create efficient and secure iPad apps creation.
