‘WSJ’ Makes Gains in November

Dow Jones & Co. reported that advertising revenue at The Wall Street Journal grew 3.6% in November on a 4.8% drop in lineage.

Classified, technology, and financial advertising lineage fell while general ad lineage rose 1.3%. Within the general category, the paper gained lineage with consumer electronics, luxury goods, healthcare, and other advertising. The auto and travel categories were weak.

Classified lineage was down 15.9% due to a drop in real estate advertising. Technology lineage was down 8.9%. Financial lineage slipped 0.5%.

Local media ad revenue declined 1.1% on a 6.6% decline in volume. Display revenue dropped 7.3%, while classified revenue fell 6.6%. Online ad revenue was up 73.4%, preprint revenue grew 4.6% and non-daily revenue rose 4.4%.
