The Toronto free evening commuter daily, t.o.night, advertised the new “Hawaii Five-O” television series with a sound card inserted in copies Monday that included the show’s memorable theme song.
The full-page card has a cover with a Hawaiian beach scene and the not-so-subtle message: “Aloha. Get Lei’d Tonight.” When the card is opened a 15-second sound chip first transmits the series’ catch phrase, “Book ‘em, Danno,” and then pays the theme song.
Piet Bakker’s blog about free daily newspapers, Newspaper Innovation, also reported that t.o.night’s “Newsies’ street hawkers wore Hawaii Five-O-themed shirts while handing out the paper.
