They say, in comedy (and everywhere else?), that timing is everything, but the following would be just as enjoyable even absent the context of Gerald R. Ford’s passing.

Even if the barbs in these celebrity roasts are, theoretically, not heartfelt, one still can possibly detect some anger behind the smug mask always worn by unfunny former one-note funnyman Chevy Chase as he is roasted (or rather, charred) here by Stephen Colbert. In fact, Chevy looks more like another president as he was famously “roasted” by Colbert last year at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. But at least he’s Chevy Chase “and you’re not,” as he proudly used to say.

It’s also nice to be reminded that “Colbert is a rare French cheese usually found under the foreskin of the untalented.”
