Awards season is in full swing, with Oscars to be handed out in less than two weeks. Here are a couple of relevant videos….for your consideration.

Last night, the Dixie Chicks conquered the Grammys, a gratifying night for them after all their political troubles. They were also the subject of a recent documentary that earned wide plaudits, called “Shut Up and Sing.” It chronicles the controversies surrounding these Chicks over the past few years.

Next, competing for best foreign film in the Oscar race this month, is “The Lives of Others.” It is the finest film your correspondent has seen in quite some time, an amazing debut for a young German director. It chronicles life (and death) in pre-Glasnost East Berlin, amid mind-boggling domestic spying and thought control.
