As we at E&P mourn the passing of the Godfather of Soul, we remember one of music’s most powerful performers of all time, the Grand Master of All Things Funky. Check out these clips to get a taste of the greatness of Mr. James Brown.

First is a clip from a late-1970s documentary that recalls the chart success of the “Live at the Apollo” album, which in 1963 began a 66-week stay in Billboard’s Top 100 Chart, reaching No. 2. The true highlight, however, is this rare footage of Brown explaining how his dance moves had influenced all of modern disco at the time. The Boogaloo? His. The Funky Chicken? His.
