Albuquerque Journal Cartoonist Retires After 34 Years

By: Rob Tornoe / E&P

In his roll as the staff cartoonist for the Albuquerque Journal, John Trever has skewered New Mexico politicians for the last 34 years. Now, the 68-year-old cartoonist has decided to pull back from his roll as daily ink slinger in a time when staff cartooning jobs are on the decline, and most cartoonists (and reporters) aren’t afforded the luxury of a long career at a single newspaper.

“On one occasion when my cartoon and an editorial differed over a local development project, and the editor pointed out to the developer that the editorial had supported the project, I was quite flattered to be told the developer replied, “Yeah, but one Trever cartoon is worth a thousand editorials.”
